Job Summary

The System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and reliable operation of IT systems and infrastructure. The role ensures high availability, performance, and security of servers, networks, and platforms that support software development and business operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers (Linux/Windows)
  • Manage on-premises and/or cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity
  • Perform regular system updates, patching, and upgrades
  • Configure and maintain network services (DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls)
  • Implement and enforce security controls and access management
  • Monitor for security incidents and respond to vulnerabilities
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices
  • Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Regularly test backup restoration and recovery procedures
  • Maintain system documentation and recovery plans
  • Participate in Sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as needed
  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for system-related issues
  • Troubleshoot system, network, and performance problems
  • Work with Solve Addis development team and IT support technicians on escalations
  • Maintain system logs, alerts, and incident reports
  • Maintain accurate system configurations and diagrams
  • Recommend infrastructure improvements and optimizations
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and security trends

Job Requirements

·Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field

·More than three years of experience as a System Administrator or similar role

·Strong experience with Linux and/or Windows server administration

·Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies

·Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

·Operating Systems: Linux, Windows Server

·Cloud & Virtualization: AWS/Azure/GCP, VMware, Hyper-V

·Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Firewalls

·Security: IAM, patch management, vulnerability management

·Automation & Scripting: Bash, PowerShell, Python (advantage)

·Monitoring & Logging tools

·Backup and disaster recovery tools

·Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

·Good communication and documentation skills

·Ability to work under pressure and manage incidents

·Collaboration mindset with development and operations teams
